Register a birth

Important information

  • All births in the NT must be registered within 60 days.
  • You’ll need to provide copies of identification documents for the parents who’ll be listed on the certificate.
  • If only one parent is being registered, you’ll need to include a letter explaining why.
  • If neither parent can complete the registration, the person who has custody of the child is responsible for registering the birth.

Start now

This takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

Payment options

Registering a birth is free.

There is a separate application process to get a copy of the birth certificate. This has a fee.

Other ways to register

You can also complete the birth registration statement you received from health professionals after the baby was born. To find out more, go to the NT Government website.
