Apply for an international visitor firearm permit

Important information

  • International visitors who bring a firearm, firearm parts, accessories or ammunition into the NT for safari hunting or competition shooting must have a permit. Make sure you read the information about the permit on the NT Police website.
  • You'll need to provide details about your firearm, travel itinerary, and the safari company or competition you're attending.
  • A copy of your passport and valid firearms licence or a criminal history/background check must also be attached.
  • You'll need to upload a passport-style photo for the permit. Read the photo requirements.

You must complete and submit your form in one session. You can't save your application and complete it at a later stage. Make sure you have all the information you need before you start.

There is a fee. You can pay online using a Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card.

Visitors who won't be bringing their own firearm

If you'll be using a firearm under supervision of a licence holder, you need to complete a Prohibited Persons Declaration. Submit this at least 6 weeks before travelling to Australia.
