MVR appointments - terms and conditions

The Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR) appointment service is operated by MVR and supported by the Department of Corporate and Digital Development, on behalf of the Northern Territory Government (NTG). We’ll refer to MVR as ‘we’, ‘us’ or 'our' in these terms and conditions.

These terms and conditions describe your rights and responsibilities as a user of the MVR appointment service.

To make a booking you must:

  • Be a natural person (not a corporate entity).
  • Have an email address and mobile phone number.

We will send reminders about your booking to the email and phone number you provide.

Your responsibilities

Importance of your responsibilities

By making a booking, you agree to be bound by and comply with these terms and conditions and have read, fully understood and consented to our collection, use and disclosure of your personal information as set out in the booking collection notice, together with any relevant guidelines, instructions and procedures.

We may change, add or remove services you can book, or update these terms and conditions at any time by republishing them online. You should read these terms and conditions every time you use this service in case they have changed. Your ongoing use of the MVR appointment service constitutes your acceptance of any new terms and conditions. These terms and conditions replace any terms and conditions you may have previously accepted.

It's important to understand your responsibilities when making a booking.

If you do not comply with your responsibilities (and these terms and conditions) we may terminate your appointment. We may also suspend or terminate your use of the MVR appointment service at any time for any reason.

Security of information

You are responsible for taking reasonable care in how you access this service. We do not warrant and cannot ensure the security of any information which you transmit to us, as data transmitted over the internet cannot be guaranteed as totally secure.

Timely arrival

If you are more than 5 minutes late for your appointment it will be cancelled.

You will be able to use the service to book another appointment if one is available. We can't guarantee appointment availability.

Making a booking for lawful purposes

You must only book an MVR appointment for lawful purposes.

You must not infringe the rights of, inhibit or restrict the use and enjoyment of MVR appointments, or services by any third party. This includes conduct which:

  • is unlawful
  • harasses, distresses or causes inconvenience to any person
  • disrupts online services
  • involves the transmission of material that:
    • is obscene, offensive or scandalous
    • constitutes or encourages conduct that would contravene any law
  • disrupts MVR appointments.

Providing accurate information

You are responsible for making sure the details you enter into your booking are accurate. If you misuse the system and provide inaccurate information, your appointment may be cancelled. Bookings are only available for select services.  If you are untruthful about the service you need when booking, your appointment may be cancelled.

You acknowledge that if you supply incomplete, inaccurate or false information, or use your booking to perform (or attempt to perform) an unauthorised action, or otherwise misuse the MVR appointment service, we may suspend or terminate your use of the service.

Our responsibilities

Security and privacy requirements of your personal information

We are responsible for:

  • Taking reasonable steps to ensure the security of your personal information whenever you make an appointment. This includes when your personal information is collected by, stored on, or passed through systems to deliver your requested service.
  • Handling your personal information in accordance with the Information Privacy Principles under the Northern Territory Information Act 2002.

We are not responsible for:

  • Making sure the appointment service is accessible at all times and/or error free.
  • Any loss, damage, cost or expense (to any person or property), including loss of profits or revenue, loss or denial of opportunity, loss of use, loss of data, and any indirect, remote, abnormal or unforeseeable loss (loss) as a result of your use, or your inability to use the appointment service.

Exclusion of liability

We will not be liable to you or third parties for:

  • Your device’s incapacity in using this service.
  • Interruptions or delays to your appointment whether beyond our control or not.
  • Any loss you might incur as a result of the information being inaccurate or incomplete in any way, for any reason.
  • Any non-compliance with foreign and local laws if you use this service outside of Australia.
  • Your use of other websites which you may access through this service including in relation to contracting viruses, worms, trojan horses and other items of a destructive nature.

Copyright and disclaimer

The NTG further limits and waves liability for the use of its materials/information made available through its systems to the public, including the use of the service.

Copyright on this service is owned by the NTG. For more information, please refer to our copyright and disclaimer statement.

Entire agreement

These terms and conditions constitute the whole agreement between us and you in relation to the MVR appointment service, and supersedes all prior representations, agreements, statements and understandings, whether verbal or in writing.

Severance

If any of these terms and conditions are held to be invalid, unenforceable or illegal for any reason, the remaining terms and conditions will continue in full force.

Governing law

These terms and conditions are governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws and courts of the Northern Territory, Australia, and you agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Northern Territory.
