Apply to use your vehicle for ridesharing

Important information

  • Any vehicle used for ridesharing needs a commercial vehicle licence (CVL).
  • The vehicle will need to meet maximum age requirements, maintenance standards and have a roadworthy inspection less than 6 weeks before you apply.
  • If you aren't the owner of the vehicle, you'll need to attach written approval from the owner to your application. Details about what this needs to include are listed below.

Start now

This takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

All steps must be completed in one go. You can't save your application and complete it at a later stage.

Payment options

If your application is approved, you must pay an annual licence fee and additional motor accident compensation insurance as part of the vehicle registration.

You’ll receive an email with a link to pay online using a Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card.

If you aren't the vehicle's owner

You'll need to attach written approval from the owner to your application. This must include:

  • the owner's details (name, address, date of birth)
  • the vehicle's identification number (VIN)
  • the vehicle's registration number
  • a statement from the owner giving you permission to use the vehicle for commercial or rideshare purposes.
